Most budding songwriters and musicians already record their own material at home, in their bedroom, a cupboard or a shed even – often using a laptop running cheap software downloaded from the web. The professionals – a specialist, producer and artist – come together on this panel to advise attendees about turning those basic recordings into something altogether more spectacular sounding. They will impart the tricks of the trade; talk about the best equipment and software and debate the future of recording DIY-style vs. the big studios. 	Chair: Bruce Aisher (University of Hertfordshire) Panel: Nigel Calvert (Calvert Solicitors), Steve Long (Signum Records and The Sound Corporation), Dave Fenton (Musicians Union)Navigating your way through a legal contract, whatever your style of music, and particularly when you are excited about getting your music out there, can be daunting and confusing. Bruce Aisher from the University of Hertfordshire leads a panel of experts in a discussion about what to look out for and avoid and ensure what needs to be included in the different types of publishing and record deals. There will be a Q&A session with advice from a panel with many years experience in the music business including a leading Media & Entertainment lawyer, dance producer and music writer for tv, and a classical indie record company and music production producer.

Since then, he has worked with internationally renowned producers JR Rotem, Dallas Austin, written for JLS and scored #1 singles in Ireland and top 10 singles in Europe with ‘Lipstick’ and ‘Bad Behaviour’ for Jedward. Dan is one half of pop duo MANNEQUIN! Embrace the pop! MIKE HOUGH. What can we say…also on the SongFest ‘YouTube Sensations’ panel, he really lives up to the hype. Mike attracted music lovers to his work through performing a mix of covers and his own compositions on YouTube. Through sheer hard work, determination and talent, this is a songwriter and vocalist extraordinaire. Once told by Simon Cowell at an X Factor audition that he would ‘never be good enough’, Mike has got Simon eating his words. He has over 27,000 followers on Twitter, sold out a headlining show at the IndigO2, had plays on Radio 1, XFM and nominated this year for a MOBO Award. Mike will be showing that his songs lend themselves as much to young, urban chart music as they do stripped down with an acoustic guitar. and our headliners….the amazing new band who have impressed Hollyoaks’ producer so much that he’s written them into the soap!
